About Seri Pusaka

Seri Pusaka was founded in Kuala Lumpur with a particular focus on the kinds of legal engagements that families rarely discuss until they feel the weight of them. Estate arrangements, will drafting, wasiat preparation, and the longer task of thinking through what will pass between generations — these are matters that call for careful handling and unhurried conversation.

The practice takes its name from the Malay word for heritage — pusaka — which carries within it the sense of something passed down with intention. That orientation shapes how we work. Engagements begin with listening. Every consultation ends with a written summary. Decisions are never pressed.

We serve families across Kuala Lumpur and the wider Klang Valley, with particular experience in engagements that involve both civil and Islamic estate instruments. Our work is conducted in English, and we are attentive to the legal frameworks that apply across the different communities we work with.

Ahmad Hazwan bin Zulkifli

Principal Solicitor

Called to the Malaysian Bar in 2008, Ahmad Hazwan has spent the greater part of his practice on estate and succession matters. He leads consultations for families undertaking the Generational Estate Programme.

Norzahra binti Rashid

Senior Associate, Wasiat & Faraid

Norzahra specialises in wasiat preparation and faraid matters, and holds a postgraduate qualification in Islamic estate planning from Universiti Malaya. She conducts will drafting engagements with particular care for Muslim estate considerations.

Lim Mei Shan

Associate, Civil Estate Matters

Mei Shan advises on civil will drafting, trust structures, and probate processes for non-Muslim estates. She brings careful attention to cross-jurisdictional asset matters that affect families with property in multiple states or overseas.

Estate and Inheritance Legal Work in Malaysia

The legal landscape for estate and inheritance matters in Malaysia reflects the country's plural legal system. Civil estates are governed by the Distribution Act 1958, the Probate and Administration Act 1959, and — where trusts are involved — the Trustee Act 1949. Muslim estates are distributed according to faraid principles under Islamic law, with wasiat instruments subject to their own rules and limits.

Families in Malaysia often find that their estate arrangements involve both frameworks — particularly where assets have been acquired across different legal categories, or where family members hold different religious statuses. Navigating this thoughtfully requires legal counsel with working knowledge of both systems and the patience to explain the implications clearly.

Will drafting in Malaysia is not a once-and-done matter. A will that was appropriate at one stage of life may need to be revisited as family circumstances, asset holdings, or intentions change. The same is true of a wasiat — a document that captures a considered set of intentions at a particular moment and that can be updated as those intentions develop.
